HATS OFF TO THE KENTUCKY DERBY

Derby’s 146 Year Love Affair with the Hat

Have you ever thought about a hat?  It keeps our heads warm or the sun off.  It’s an undervalued piece of apparel until we need it. And then we frantically search for it!

Defined by Webster’s Dictionary, a hat is “a covering for the head usually having a shaped crown and brim; a distinctive head covering worn as a symbol of office.” But let’s go a step further… do you think about hat fashion?

Probably not… until …The first weekend in May when the eyes of the world are focused on the humble hat during the greatest 2 minutes in sports . Large, small, extravagant or modest, for the 147 years the lowly hat has evolved into the focal point of the Kentucky Derby … sometimes eclipsing the race itself.
